Manila Bulletin donates to the SM Cares Housing Project

Manila Bulletin recently joined hands with SM Cares to support its ongoing housing project for Yolanda (international name: Haiyan)-devastated areas by donating Php 400,000.

The money will be used to fund the completion of two houses in one of the upcoming SM Cares Villages in the Visayas.

In 2014, SM Cares launched the Yolanda Housing Project which aims to build 1,000 houses for the families who lost their homes to the destruction brought by Typhoon Yolanda. The houses will be given to deserving families for free.

To date, SM Cares has already turned over 200 houses with its first SM Cares Village in Bogo, Cebu last year. Another 200 homes will be built in Concepcion, Iloilo this October while the remaining 600 are targeted to be completed by the end of the year.

Each SM Cares house is around 20 x 23 square meters and is designed to withstand winds from a category 5 super typhoon without sustaining major structural damages. In addition to this, the houses will also have heat resistant painted roofing to help lower interior temperature and increase energy efficiency. Finally, all SM Cares Villages are equipped with basic utilities and amenities such as streetlights, a community center and a basketball court.
