Present at the MOA signing were (L-R) SM Investments Corporation AVP for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Victor Chan, SMFI Trustee Engr. Chito Macapagal, The Manila Times College President Dante Ang, SMFI executive director Debbie Sy, SMFI executive director for education programs Linda Atayde, SMFI SAVP for scholarships Lingling Lansang, and SMFI PR consultant Neny Regino.

SM Foundation (SMFI), in partnership with The Manila Times, officially launched the inclusion of journalism courses from The Manila Times College in Subic under its SM College Scholarship Program for School Year 2022-2023.

Aspiring journalism and broadcasting scholars, who demonstrate exceptional talent in journalistic writing and a commitment to spreading social good news from the said College, will undergo a stringent application process. Once awarded, scholars will enjoy free tuition and miscellaneous subsidies, monthly allowance, enrichment programs, and part-time job opportunities during semestral and Christmas breaks.

SMFI executive director Debbie Sy and The Manila Times College president Dante Ang led the signing of the memorandum of agreement held at the SM Retail Headquarters in Pasay City.

“We acknowledge the vital role of journalists and communicators alike in spreading social good news to the public. Through those social good stories, we hope to ignite the passion and aspirations of our stakeholders to also spread kindness in their own ways—touching and improving the lives of Filipinos one social good program at a time,” Sy said.

SMFI, through its Scholarship program, provides deserving and qualified students with access to college education and technical-vocational studies since 1993. To date, SM has produced more than 8,000 college and tech-voc scholar-graduates.
