SM Foundation receives P10M from Uniqlo to fight COVID-19

Uniqlo Philippines pledged Php 10 million donations to SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) to fight the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the country. In a statement, Uniqlo Philippines said that the donation will be used to provide food assistance to communities that are most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and for the purchase of personal protective equipment of front-liners who are risking their lives in serving the medical needs of the nation amidst this corona crisis.

SMFI expressed their gratitude to Uniqlo for the donation. Uniqlo has been a regular and consistent partner of the SMFI particularly in its Social Good Programs and has always provided support to the foundation in times of crisis, disasters, and calamities.

UNIQLO Philippines has been collaborating with SMFI since 2012.  Last December 2019, UNIQLO Philippines helped the communities that were affected by the earthquakes in Mindanao by providing Php2.5 Million for food assistance; and in January 2020, UNIQLO Philippines also donated Php2.5 Million to help build houses for the families that were displaced, due to the Taal Volcano eruption in Batangas.

Early this month, the SM Group has pledged P100 million for efforts to battle the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines. This is on top of the waived rentals of all tenants of SM Supermalls nationwide, continued compensation of their employees, and the extension of an Emergency Financial Assistance to its front liners, security guards, and janitorial staff during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) period.
