700 SM scholars gathered at the SM MOA grounds to welcome the new school year

During the half-day event, the scholars were briefed on their responsibilities as well as benefits under the program. Cash cards and SM scholar shirts were also provided to new scholars. After the re-orientation, the scholars were treated to a free movie screening.

“SM Foundation currently supports over 1,500 scholars nationwide in our 84 partner schools,” said Linda Atayde, SM Foundation Executive Director for Education. “The scholarship is envisioned to create a ripple effect. Through education, the scholars can rise above their circumstances and secure a better future for themselves and their families.”

Atayde added “We’re not only investing in our scholars—we are investing in the future.”

Early in 2015, SM Foundation accepted 275 new scholars for school year 2015-2016. Including this latest batch, the college scholarship program has already helped more than 3,660 scholars since the program started in 1993.
