SM Foundation honors Volunteer Doctors
Seven doctors who have been rendering their services to the SM Foundation Medical Missions were honored by SM Foundation, Inc. for their untiring support to its health and medical missions. These volunteer doctors, composed of practicing, semi-retired, and retired professionals have given their services, time, and expertise for free for the past 12 years, especially during medical missions. They were presented plaques of appreciation after a simple luncheon hosted by SM Foundation Executive Director Debbie P. Sy.
Leading the honorees is Dr. Rogelio B. Belleza, a neurologist, who started volunteer work for the Foundation in 2003. A consultant at the Capitol Medical Center, he is a retired professor of Neurology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. Another honoree is 75-year-old Dr. Perla Alban who specializes in infectious diseases and tropical medicine. She is a consultant at the San Lazaro Hospital National Rehydration Treatment and Training Center. Dr. Antonio Jose DLS. De la Paz, former kagawad of the city of Manila is a volunteer dentist for the past 12 years. A former director of Tondo General Hospital, Dr. Bayani S. Quijano, 86 years old, started volunteer work with the Foundation in 2009 after having lost his wife prior to the celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. His work with the mission has been considered his therapeutic work, bringing him to the place where he was born – Tondo. Also chalking up years of volunteer work is Dr. Ma. Corazon S. Maglaya, who specializes in Occupational Medicine. Cancer survivor and a pediatrician/consultant at the Mandaluyong Medical Center, Dr. Lyn C. Alarcon, a cancer survivor joined SM’s roster of volunteer doctors in 2008.
Posthumously honored is Dr. Estrella N. Fabro, a volunteer for four years who passed away last year due to complications of breast cancer metastasis. She was represented by her son, Dr. William Fabro, a dentist.
