SM Foundation begins modern farming training program in Leyte

Farmers from Kananga, Leyte, who will undergo the 14-week training with SM Foundation and its social good partners

The SM Foundation has relaunched its farming training initiative, the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) Farming Program, in Leyte, welcoming a new batch of 120 farmers into its 14-week training cycle.

The program, which first began in 2007, focuses on teaching modern farming techniques, including the cultivation of high-value crops, basic entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Additionally, participants undergo values formation lessons inspired by the life of SM founder Henry Sy, Sr.

Through this initiative, the foundation seeks to strengthen the capacity of small-scale farmers by providing access to markets through the SM Group’s business units. It also aims to support their transition from subsistence farming to more sustainable and market-oriented social enterprises.

The training is implemented in partnership with SM Supermalls, SM Markets, and various other social good collaborators, ensuring a comprehensive support system for the farmers during and after the program.

Since its inception, the KSK program has produced over 32,000 graduates across the Philippines, empowering rural communities and contributing to local food security.

Farmers participating in the KSK program will attend training sessions designed to teach essential business principles and effective marketing techniques, helping to strengthen their agricultural enterprises.
