Eastern Samar Farmers can supply vegetables to SM Savemore after Training program

Despite the onslaught of a strong typhoon, 141 participants of SM Foundation’s 80th Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers Training Program finished the season-long training program in Balangiga, Eastern Samar. The graduation ceremony was held recently at the Barangay San Miguel Plaza, Balangiga, Eastern Samar.

A Harvest Festival usually precedes the graduation ceremony. Unfortunately for the KSK Batch 80 participants, they had to forego with the harvest festival due to Typhoon Ruby. Typhoon Ruby damaged the crops planted by the vegetable farmers.

Nevertheless, the farmers were grateful to SM Foundation for the training they received and look forward to practice what they learned. Herbert Policar, Assistant Store Manager of Tacloban Savemore, announced that the farmers could be suppliers of SM Savemore in the future.

Balangiga is a fourth class municipality with 13 barangays in Eastern Samar. It is located on the southern coast of the island of Samar facing Leyte Gulf, and sits at the mouth of the Balangiga River.

Present during the graduation ceremony was Cristie S. Angeles, Assistant Vice President for Livelihood and Outreach, SM Foundation; Leonard Mirador, Field Agriculturist, Harbest Agribusiness Corporation; Roger Villamor,  Project Development Officer II, DSWD FO VIII; Estrella Loamilda, Assistant Mall Manager, SM City Consolation;  Barangay Captain of San Miguel  Rodito C. Degorio; Jennifer P. Demagante, Customer Assistant SM Savemore Tacloban; and  Florabelle Jane T. Ramos, also of SM Savemore Tacloban.
