BDO volunteers plant trees in Antipolo

More than 120 volunteers from BDO branches and various departments recently planted trees in Antipolo City in an environmental event organized by BDO Foundation with SM Foundation.

Assisted by members of the People’s Organization in the community, BDO volunteers planted narra and cacao saplings on approximately 20 hectares in the mountains of Sitio San Ysiro, Barangay San Jose.

BDO volunteers hiked uphill for almost an hour to reach the tree planting site in Sitio San Ysiro, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.

The event is part of Grow a Million Trees, an environmental campaign of the SM Group of Companies in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Sitio San Ysiro Upland and Lowland Farmers Association Inc.

The three-year campaign supports the National Greening Program (NGP), a government priority program that aims to pursue sustainable development for poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation, with the DENR as lead agency.

The tree planting is in keeping with the Grow a Million Trees objective of helping in disaster risk reduction through the preservation of forests. The event is also expected to help provide a sustainable source of livelihood for the people of Sitio San Ysiro.

The Grow a Million Trees campaign has so far planted more than 600,000 trees in areas covered by the NGP.
