Basa Airbase Hospital is 12th Military Facility renovated by SM Foundation

SM Foundation, represented by Executive Director Debbie P. Sy and Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Connie Angeles, turned over a renovated and refurbished 60-bed Basa Airbase Hospital to the Commanding Officer of the Hospital, Colonel Augustus de Villa. A memorandum of agreement was signed by the partners witnessed by Brigadier General Enrique C. Reyes, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Wing Commander, and Brigadier General Joselito P. Avancena, AFP Surgeon General.

The Basa Airbase Hospital serves the military personnel of the Air Defense Wing, Engineering Wing and the Research and Development Wing of the AFP as well as the personnel of the Philippine State College of Aeronautics.

According to Col. De Villa, “The Basa Airbase Hospital caters to about 5,000 patients composed of 1,200 military personnel and their dependents comprising 676 households.”

“Patients are cared for by four military doctors, four military nurses and are assisted by two civilian doctors and 10 civilian nurses. Surrounding barangays are likewise being treated in the hospital as well as barangays of nearby cultural minority communities. These communities are recipients of outreach projects conducted by the Airbase personnel like medical missions, feeding programs and livelihood programs through the Adopt-a-Barangay Program under Lt. Col. Mike Morales,” he further explained.

The renovated facility now boasts of an emergency room, minor surgery room, ICU, VIP rooms, officers’ rooms, military wards for males and females, a pediatric ward, consultations rooms and nurses services offices. A Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center for Children is an added feature since majority of the medical cases attended to in the hospital involve young patients.

Aside from the renovated infrastructure, office furniture and medical supplies were provided for. As in all SM Foundation-adopted hospital facilities, the Basa Airbase Hospital will be regularly maintained and its equipment updated by SM Foundation personnel.

The Basa Airbase Hospital is the 12th military facility renovated and refurbished by SM Foundation. The other military facilities are: Air Force Gen. Hospital in Pasay City; the AFP Medical Center (Heroes Ward) and the AFP Medical Center (Orthopedic Ward) in Quezon City; the NAVSOG Sick Bay in Sangley, Cavite; Air Force City Hospital in Clark, Pampanga; Camp Gen.
