In 2012, SM Foundation Alumnus Marc Rodolf B. Arca graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
Marc topped the CPA Board Examinations later that year, placing 4th among those who took the exams for the October 2012 batch. He now works as a Senior Associate at Sycip Gorres Velayo and Co. (SGV & Co.).
In deep appreciation of what he has been able to accomplish after his graduation, Marc shares his message to Tatang and SM Foundation, as well as his advice to other youth who have dreams like him.
To Tatang, first and foremost, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for extending your generous hand to the less fortunate like me. I could not be any prouder that you are one of my benefactors. By heart, I will forever be an SM Scholar--your Scholar.
To the SM Foundation, I will be forever thankful for your altruistic contributions not only for what I have right now but also for everything I have become as a whole. I have experienced many ‘firsts’ under the foundation --- my first summer job, my first IMAX and Science Discovery Center experience, and the like. Thank you for letting me experience how it feels to become part of a bigger family --- a genuine family in pursuit of a guaranteed future. I hope that you will continue to serve as a catalyst in changing the life of the less fortunate; affecting us to become more persistent to turn the tables through time and hard work.
To the youth who dream of a better life, this may be a cliché but do not let poverty hinder you in achieving your dreams and aspirations in life. Poverty may seemed to overwhelm us with myriad of snags along the way but we must not forget that before God allows them to happen to us, He has already equipped us with the necessary capabilities to turn our dreams into reality. He always has plans for us; perhaps not in the way we expect it and not in the way we want it, but it will always be part of His perfectly woven craft for us. It may look fuzzy right now but remember that a piece in a puzzle was once vague but without that mere piece, it will never make the bigger picture complete. More so, God has sent out people with benevolent hearts who will assist us in the process of reaching for our dreams.
Always dream big. Hold on to your dreams—fight for it tooth and nail and ignite your purest desire to attain it with an abundance of hope for a much comfortable life for your love ones.
