Felicidad T. Sy awarded by Holy Angel University for outstanding and selfless community service

Felicidad Tan Sy or more known as ‘Nanang’, was recently awarded during the 82nd Founding anniversary and the 123rd founder’s birth anniversary of the Holy Angel University (HAU) for her work in community service and development under the initiatives of SM Foundation. Imelda I. Elido, head of SM Foundation’s religious affairs division, the Felicidad T. Sy Foundation, Inc. (FTSyFI), received the Laus Deo Semper award on the behalf of the SM matriarch.

Named after the school’s motto of “Praise be to God always”, the Laus Deo Semper is one of the five prestigious Order of the Archangels awards presented by HAU to honor individuals who best exemplified the qualities of university founder Juan D. Nepomuceno. The Laus Deo Semper specifically, is presented to those who have exhibited outstanding and selfless community service.

In 1983, Felicidad T. Sy and Henry Sy, Sr. established SM Group’s social responsibility arm, SM Foundation, Inc. Since then, the couple has supported the development of communities through its advocacy programs in education, health and livelihood. Also an active supporter of church activities, Felicidad Sy spearheads the FTSyFI with its religious projects.

“SM Foundation started with the Sy family’s vision of making a difference in the lives of Filipinos,” Elido said. “Now more than 30 years later, its programs have gone beyond helping by empowering the underserved thus contributing to the creation of self-sustaining communities.”

The advocacies of SM Foundation include college and technical-vocational scholarship grants, school building donations, mobile medical and dental services, health facilities and hospital ward rehabilitations, church reconstructions, and backyard farming training for small-scale farmers.
