Employment opportunities within SM Group extended to scholar-graduates

On May 27, 264 scholar-graduates of SM Foundation in accountancy, computer science, information technology, education, computer engineering, electronics and communications engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering were offered positions by the human resources representatives of the SM Group. Participating companies include SM Investments Corporation, The SM STORE, SM Food Retail, Shopping Center Management Corporation, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and other SM Retail affiliates.

SM Foundation continues to support scholars after graduation

“Though they are scholars of SM Foundation, we do not obligate them to join the SM Group,” said Linda Atayde, SM Foundation Executive Director for Education. “Many of our scholar-graduates from previous batches have already secured jobs either in SM or other companies, or even abroad.”

Atayde continued, “The most important part is that SM Foundation was able to give them the opportunity to choose their own paths toward a better future by putting them on an even footing as they enter the workforce.”

SM Foundation’s college scholarship program believes in developing the academic and intellectual growth of its scholars. The program also hones and motivates them to become productive members of society and leaders in their chosen fields by encouraging them to volunteer in the Foundation’s other programs. During their Christmas and summer breaks, they are also offered opportunities to work in SM malls for experience and additional income.

The job offer is held yearly for the graduating batch of SM scholars. This year, the SM College Scholarship Program produced 264 graduates, 62 of them finished with Latin honors and academic distinctions for school year 2014-2015.

SM Foundation is proud that four of its scholar-graduates topped the recent licensure exams for Civil Engineers and Electrical Engineers. They are Mark Anthony Teodoro (ranked 3rd, Electrical Engineering), Mark Anthony Tiquio (ranked 3rd, Civil Engineering), John Angelo Cruz (ranked 7th, Civil Engineering), and Jenes Borais (ranked 8th, Civil Engineering).

The SM Foundation College Scholarship Program was established in 1993 through the vision of SM patriarch Henry Sy, Sr. of sending one child from a poor family to college. It is hoped that by obtaining a formal education, the child can eventually secure a good paying job and ultimately help provide a better life for his/her family.

To date, SM Foundation has already produced over 2,160 graduates and currently supports 1,500 scholars in its 84 partner schools nationwide.
