A testament to its continuing advocacy of providing comprehensive medical service to underprivileged communities, SM Foundation recently turned over the newly renovated Earnshaw Health Center in Sampaloc, Manila.
“Earnshaw Health Center caters to about 31,000 individuals from 26 barangays in the four districts of Manila” said Connie Angeles, SM Foundation’s Executive Director for Medical Programs. “Its location inside a residential area and its close proximity to nearby colleges and universities makes it an indispensable health facility to the community.”
Renovations of the health center include a dental room, nurses’ room, physician/administrator room, records room, and a Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center for Children and the Elderly at the ground floor. The second floor houses a newly refurbished Manila Health District (MHD) Adolescent Clinic with a furnished counseling room, examination room and activity area.
The MHD Adolescent Clinic was established to help facilitate and conduct trainings on health education, behavior counselling and healthy lifestyle consultation for youths from nearby residential areas, colleges and universities.
The Earnshaw Health Center is the Foundation’s 92nd FTS Wellness Center to date. The Foundation targets to rehabilitate and renovate its 100th health center before the year ends.
Aside from renovating wellness centers, SM Foundation provides free medicine, medical consultations and basic laboratory tests through its Medical Missions. Medical services such as urinalysis, x-ray, electrocardiograph, bone density scan and complete blood chemistry tests (including FBS, Lipid Profile, RBS and complete blood count) are made available through the Foundation’s Mobile Clinic. This year, the Foundation targets to conduct 100 medical missions for 101,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
