This season of giving, students and teachers of Jugan Elementary School in Consolacion, Cebu receives a new school building from SM Foundation.
The newly built, two-storey, four-classroom school building completes the 17 school buildings in the sprawling 8,567 square meter lot of the Jugan Elementary School. The said school building is fully furnished with 200 arm chairs, 4 teacher’s desk sets, 16 wall fans, 8 blackboards, 4 wall clocks, and 4 toilets.
“The new school building will be used by kinder students and grades 3 and 4,” said Linda Atayde, SM Foundation Executive Director for Education Programs. “It is so fitting for Christmas because children love Christmas. And we want to give them a gift that can last a lifetime.”
For many years now, SM Foundation, through the School Building Program, has improved the quality of education by providing a more conducive environment for learning that has increased student attendance and test scores as well as boost the morale of the teachers.
“We won’t forget this precious gift that you shared to us even if we will go to high school,” said Rhea Ann Sumaplong, president of the School Pupil Government. “We will cherish this in our hearts wherever we go because of the time that you made many pupils in Jugan Elementary School happy for receiving a beautiful building from SM Foundation.”
This donation is another testament to SM’s commitment to uplift the quality of life of its host communities. In Cebu City alone, SM Foundation has 169 college scholars and 165 technical vocational scholars in 6 schools. It has renovated and refurbished 2 health centers and has conducted 6 medical missions. From its 9 Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers’ Trainings conducted, a total of 1,096 farmers were trained. Under SM Foundation’s Grow a Million Trees Program, it has planted 10,000 saplings which are currently being cared for by its partner people’s organizations in the area.
